Long ago an extraterrestrial being known as Jenova fell from the sky and came across a race known as the Cetra, acting as a virus Jenova started to wipe out the Cetra though the Cetra managed to defeat Jenova nearly all the Cetra were wiped out. Jenova would lay dormant for two thousand years until the power company known as Shinra which tried to utilize Jenova's cells to create a human-Cetra hybrid to humanity to the Promised Land; the head of Scientist of the Jenova project was the insane Professor Hojo, Hojo used his own unborn child as a test subject to the Jenova project, this child would be known as Sephiroth. As Sephiroth grew up he knew nothing of his true origins, he only knew that the name of his “Mother” was Jenova. Sephiroth joined an elite supersoldier organization known as SOLDIER, through the years Sephiroth became a famous war hero responsible for many major victories. Many years later Sephiroth was sent to investigate a monster breakout near a Mako factory in a small village called Nibleheim, accompanying him were fellow SOLDIERS Zack Fair and a sixteen-year-old Cloud Strife. Upon further investigation, Sephiroth started to discover the truth of his origins discovering who his “Mother” was, after several sleepless days of studying his origin Supertooth believed that Jenova was one of the Cetra and he was the last son of the Cetra. Wanting to reclaim the world for its rightful owners Sephiroth went to retrieve his mother Jenova, on his way Sephiroth destroyed Nibleheim killing nearly everyone in his way leaving only two survivors, Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockheart; after being caught off guard by Cloud Serpent was fatally injured and only managed to retrieve Jenova's head and fell into the Planet's Lifestream. Over the next several years Sephiroth traveled the Lifestream, the Planet's life energy and the afterlife for its spirits that contains the summation of all the cognition its inhabitant has ever accumulated. Growing in power and knowledge, the fragments of his body congregated at the Northern Cave inside the North Crater, joining to recreate Sephiroth's physical form in a cocoon of Mako. Sephiroth's new goal is to merge with the Lifestream and seize control of it to become a god. Many years later Sephiroth returned to Shinra headquarters to retrieve the rest of Jenova. Sephiroth nearly succeeded in his plans in destroying the world though he was defeated by a freedom fighting group known as AVALANCHE including Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Red XIII; despite his defeat, Sephiroth has returned deadlier than ever.

Despite his calm and collected demeanor at most times Sephiroth is still a deranged, delusional, and insane as they get, believing himself to be no less than a god and viewing humans to be a disgusting infection on Earth.

Vergil along with his twin brother Dante was the son of Sparda the demon and Eva the angle making him a Nephilim. One fateful day their father Sparda would disappear, leaving Eva and the twins alone; on the day of their eighth birthday, the twins home was invaded by murderous demon Mundus who was responsible for the disappearance of their father. After the death of their mother, the twins went their separate way, with Dante struggling with his demonic heritage while Vergil embraced it. Vergil had been traveling the world, looking for information about his father, Sparda. It was during this time that he visited the city of Fortuna to investigate the Order of the Sword. Upon his arrival into the city, Vergil wondered why they worship a demon like Sparda as a god. As he pondered, a horde of Scarecrows surround him, but Vergil dispatches them with little effort. After that brief encounter, Vergil then continued deeper into Fortuna, intending to learn more about the Order and their intentions. As he walked, he passed by a group of pedestrians, with a woman in a scarlet red dress taking notice of him as he walked away. After finishing his investigation of the Order's plan, Vergil soon leaves the town pondering whether or not one can call them misguided for their worship. As he walks away, he vows that one day the Order will know the true power of the son of Sparda.

He would soon reunite with his long-lost twin brother, Dante while the two have teamed up from time to time to destroy Mundus they are destined to battle which ultimately leads to his death. However upon arriving in hell, Vergil fought through hordes of demons, and evil versions of his brother and himself, after reigning victoria's Vergil became the new ruler of the Demon World.

Unlike his twin brothers laidback and goofy attitude Vergil is stoic and serious and even though he will rarely say it he does love his family. However the biggest difference between the twins is their stance on humanity, Vergil views humans as foolish and weak needing a powerful leader to guide them a leader like himself.

Abilities

Sephiroth

Master swordsmanship

Thanks to his SOLDIER training Sephiroth has become a master swordsman able to wield his ten-foot murasame with any trouble, he can go up against Genesis and Angela with ease. He initially uses very little effort in the beginning in the fight toying with his opponents but when things get serious he becomes an aggressive and relentless fighter though he still remains fairly arrogant leaving him open for a surprise attack.

Flight

Despite being one winged Sephiroth is able to fly at super speeds without any difficulty.

Magic

Sephiroth can use magic for a variety of spells and other feats, while many people need a certain amount of Material to cast magic, Sephiroth can not only cast magic without Material but also has an endless supply of magic at his disposal (with the exception of one). Sephiroth focuses on black magic which is primarily used for an offensive mean.

Illusions

Sephiroth is able to create illusions, he often uses it to play mind games and instill doubt in his enemy's.

Telekinesis

Sephiroth is capable of using telekinesis from holding his opponents in place or simply throw objects at them.

Teleportation

Sephiroth has shown the ability to teleport around the battlefield.

Energy beams

Sephiroth can fire a series of energy attacks from Mursama.

Avatar creation

A physical manifestation of Sprouts contains Jenova cells which Sephiroth can control, each are very strong though nowhere near as powerful as Sephiroth.

Vergil

Master swordsmanship

Much like Sephiroth Vergil is a nearly unrivaled swordsman, he uses extreme speed and precision to cut his foes down before they have time to react. His fighting style seems to be based on the Japanese martial art, Aikido which is the quick draw sword fighting style.

 

Marksmanship

Much like his brother Danter, Vergil is a skilled marksman with both firearms and magic.

Mental resistance

Vergil has managed to overcome the Sin’s illusions and somehow managed to cut through it with his sword.

Healing factor

Like Dante Vergil has an impressive healing factor, though the full extent of his healing ability is unknown as Vergil doesn't get hit as much as Dante.

Teleportation

Vergil has shown the ability to teleport short distances in combat.

Equipment

Sephiroth

Masamune

Sephiroth's favorite weapon would be his 10 foot Masamune blade its design seems to based on the traditional Ōdachi which was wielded by the feudal class of Samurai. Despite its outlandish size Sephiroth is very comfortable using it in both close and long range combat. While it may appear rather scrawny it is very durable withstanding several strikes from Cloud's buster sword and is sharp enough to cut through most material with ease. The sword has several other abilities as well, such as healing Superhots wounds, casting fire, ice, earth, and even lighting. Seperhoith also doesn't need to worry about being disarmed either as he can manifest the blade at will.

Black Materia

As mysterious and powerful materia that is incredibly rare; upon accessing it Sephiroth can summon the “Ultimate Destructive Magic” known as Meteor that is said to be powerful enough to destroy the earth, however despite its power it can be countered by its counterpart White Materia.

Gold Armlet

A golden armlet that has 46 defensive power and 28 magic defensive power as well as two Materia slots.

Tough Ring

A silver ring that increases Sephiroth's physical defense and magical defense by 50.

 

Vergil

Yamato

The legendary that was once wielded by his father, with it Vergil is able to reflect bullets, cuts through meteors, and fire air based projectiles from the blade. The blade also has the unique feature to cut through dimensions which allows Vergil to travel from world to world.

Sniper Rifle

While Vergil views guns as dishonorable he has occasionally used firearms, including a sniper rifle with deadly precision.

Bewoulf

A pair of gauntlets and greaves that flows with Sacred Light, they increase Vergil's speed and striking power.

Force Edge

An additional sword that was once wielded by his father, he tends to dual wield it with Yamato and is even capable of throwing it like a boomerang.

Sephiroth

Heartless Angel

An incredibly deadly attack where Sephiroth summons an angel that rains down magic on the enemy which drains all their magic as well as reducing their HP to 1, though it can be displaced if Sephiroth is interrupted during his summon.

Octaslash

Sephiroth delivers a series of swift sequence of sword slashes at superhuman speeds.

Reaper

Sephiroth attacks his opponent with three lightning-fast sword swings but due to his swords absurd length, it lands multiple hits.

Shadow Flare

Sephiroth summons four balls composed of dark energy that explode upon contact.

Fervent blow

Sephiroth fires a series of energy waves if they hit an opponent Seproauth lunges at them and knocks them away.

Godspeed

Swings his sword at super speed while firing several energy blades.

Scintilla

Sephiroth blocks the opponent and then counterstrikes.

Meteor

By using black materia Sephiroth can summon a meteor it is so powerful that it is capable of wiping out all life on the planet.

Vergil

Yamato attacks

Yamato Combo: A slick three hit combo. Vergil sheaths his sword after the combo is finished.

Aerial Rave: An aerial attack, that can be used continuously in rapid succession.

Rapid Slash: Vergil quickly charges towards an enemy, thrusting his sword deep into them. Level 2 is an even more destructive version.

Upper Slash: Vergil unsheathes his sword then quickly slashes enemy launching them into the air.

Judgement Cut: Vergil unsheathes his sword to cut enemies far away.

Beowulf attacks

Beowulf Combo: A vicious right-left punch combo followed by a whirlwind kick.

Starfall: A mid-air dive kick.

Lunar Phase: A powerful, downward revolving kick.

Rising Sun: A multi-hit attack that launches Vergil upward. This attack can be followed with Starfall.

Beowulf Combo A: A powerful combo that ends with a double-roundhouse kick.

Beowulf Combo B: Lightning fast kicks rock an opponent with speed and fury.

Beast Uppercut: Vergil lunges towards an enemy and launches them into the air with a heavyweight uppercut.

Dragon Breaker: A devastating rising double uppercut, infused to the max with demonic power.

Kick 13: Vergil unleashes a series of powerful kicks down towards an enemy.

Flush: By jumping at extreme speeds Vergil can injury enemies on impact.

Sword Summoning attacks

Summed Swords: Vergil hurls swords magically summoned.

Spiral Swords: Creates a barrier of endless sword which protects him and harms any enemy that comes to close.

Sword Storm: After executing Spiral Swords Vergil can launch the swords towards an enemy.

Blistering Swords: Vergil fires out swords in rapid succession after executing Spiral Swords.

Heavy Rain Swords: Creates a deadly rainfall of summoned swords.

Force Edge attacks

Force Edge combo: A flurry of strikes which links multiple hits from the sword and sheath into one deadly combo.

Helm Breaker: A powerful swing that comes crashing down on the enemy's head.

Stinger: A powerful thrust attack that helps close the distance between Vergil and the enemy.

High Time: Vergil cuts an enemy in the air.

Million Stab: A blinding whirlwind of stabs with enough momentum to blast an enemy backward.

Round Trip: After hurling Force Edge towards an open it creates a vacuum effect that sucks enemies in while slicing them up.

Drive: Vergil fires a shockwave from Force Edge

Overdrive: Releasing another shockwave attack.

-An alternate form Vergil access after being corrupted by Mundus.

-Wields a large Zweihander blade.

-Drastic increases his strength.

-While he loses the ability to summon swords he gains the ability to shoot demonic fire constructs out of his fists and powerful electricity.

• Became SOLDIERS greatest hero becoming a renowned hero throughout the land.

• Nearly killed Cloud Strife and only lost due to being caught off guard.

• Supernova can do this. (Take this feat with a grain of salt as it has been debated whether it is an outlier or mostly an illusion)

• Faster than Cloud who can block point-blank gunfire.

• Sora has trouble keeping up with him, Sora is capable of outpacing beings that can travel solar systems in 130 seconds.

• As seen above Sephiroth is capable of standing in fire with no trouble.
• Survived being impaled by Cloud’s buster sword.

• Has matched and defeated his twin brother Dante.

• Can cut through giant monsters with ease.
• Cut a giant statue head clean off.
• Stronger than pre-awaking Dante who could match monsters that leveled towns and cut through buildings.
• Match an awaked Dante.

Speed

• Can swing Yamanto and Force Edge at blinding speeds.
• Able to react to a missile.
• Reacts to Dante's devil trigger.
• Cut a demon apart before it could react.
• Superior to pre awakened Dante who can do this.

Durability

• Can take hits from monsters the size of buildings.
• Vergil regeneration is comparable to Dante's.
• Tanks hits from Dante who can easily cut through building size demons.

Weakness

Sephiroth

Despite Sephiroth's incredible power, he has he fair share of flaws. For one despite his godly power, enough brute force is capable of putting him down, in order to perform Meteor he must have access to Black Materia so if it knocked out of his hand or destroyed he will be no longer able to use Meteor. Several of his attacks can be canceled if interrupted, but his greatest weakness is undoubtedly his mind; Separates insanity has lead to him making brash decision and has let his guard down more than once.

Vergil

While his brother may be cocky, Vergil is incredibly arrogant and overconfident in his abilities, also like Goku he prefers to fight his opponents at their best even if their best far exceeds his own. Plus while his Nelo Angelo is incredibly powerful it loses the same diversity of his base.

Conclusion

Sephiroth

Advantages:

• Much stronger, faster, and durable than Vergil or anyone in his universe
• Better training.
• Sword gives him longer melee reach.
• Has fought similar opponents before.
• Flight gives him the mobility advanced.
• Greater range.
• Has more hax like Heartless Angel and Death Sentence.
• More elemental attacks
• More likely to play dirty.
• Can potentially resurrect himself.
• Overall superior forms.
• Better theme.

Disadvantages:

• Arguably more arrogant.
• Not as many weapons.
• Several attacks leave him open.
• Illusions won’t work on Vergil.
• Bridges and nicknames.

Advantages:

• More diverse weaponry.
• Regeneration arguably gives him better stamina.
• Several attacks can catch Sephiroth off guard.
• Immune to Sephiroth's mental attacks.
• More levelheaded.
• Better fashion sense

Disadvantages:

• Is simply outclassed in stats.
• Will fight fairly.
• Healing factor can only last so long.
• Less range
• Will likely let Sephiroth transform.
• Less training.

So this fight should break both Final Fantasy's losing streak and DMC Winning streak; while Vergil is an incredible swordsman he simply can’t match Sephiroth’s insane power but for the sake of fairness let's look at Virgil's best advandgte; his healing factor, while it is very impressive and can allow Vergil to fight for quite sometime but his healing factor isn’t infallible as he can still be killed, plus Separates much superior strength and speed he can wear out Vergil's healing factor, and while Vergil may have more weapons than Sephiroth there pretty much useless considering Septroiths speed and durability. But the biggest factor would be Seperoiths magic which could lower Vergil's HP to 1 leaving him defenseless, summon a meteor that can completely obliterate Vergil or use Death Sentance to give Vergil sixty secounds to live. So, in the end, the swordsman with mommy issues beats the one with daddy issues.
